  1. Update on endometriosis and infertility (IVF)

    Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Hi guys, Happy New Year! I'm so excited for 2014. Sorry for the short hiatus, I started a new blog about infertility and IVF. My DH and I have decided to go through with IVF.

Here is what's been happening, you can also find detailed information on this on my new blog:
    • March 2013: My last shot of Lupron is wearing off. DH and I have decided to skip the acupuncture and are looking to see a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE).
    • April 2013: My DH and I went to see a RE (IVF Specialist).
      • Decided to take some time off work to concentrate on my IVF.
    • April/May 2013: IVF Fresh Cycle #1 - BFN
    • June/July 2013: IVF Fresh Cycle #2 - BFN
    • July/August 2013: IVF Cycle #3 Frozen Embryo Transfer - BFN
      • Got my certification in Yoga. I'm so happy! Yoga really helped me tremendously when I was stressed and working. I'm glad I can now share this with others. I'm still looking for a gig!
    • December 2013IVF #4 Frozen Embryo Transfer - BFP! YES!
    • January 2014: IVF Cycle #4 Dilation and Curettage
It has been a trying time for the body and mind. There has been laughter and tears. When it rains, it pours. I can't imagine how other couples dealing with infertility do it. When we first started on the IVF road, we were really excited and probably told a fair share of the people we know. After three failed attempts, we didn't want to talk about it anymore. But too late, we have already told people. So the inquiries were hard to answer as we are more cautious.

The day after Christmas, we found out the embryo wasn't developing correctly. On January 3, 2014 we had a dilation and curettage. Our Dr.s' advised to try again in another two months or so. But I am so hopeful about 2014!

  2. IVF and Acupuncture

    Monday, February 18, 2013

After 9 months of Lupron and Norethindrone, my OB-GYN advised my DH and me to start on IVF and acupuncture. The two IVF recommendations my OB recommended do not accept insurance. The IVF facilities that are covered by insurance have so-so rating.

It has been a long, exhausting and emotional journey for my DH and me. And I found out the next few months will be just as trying. After making an appointment with the IVF specialist, we will be able to see him in 2 weeks. We also made an appointment to see the acupuncturist, we were able to see the acupuncturist in 1 week. My acupuncturist gave us a free 30 minute consultation. After the consultation, he gave us a list that's 3 pages long of what to eat/not eat and when to eat it and gave us an idea of what to expect during the IVF process.

He mentioned that he would need at least 2-3 months to work with us to get my meridians aligned. The process that he goes through with us will eventually give us better quality of eggs to work with during IVF. Since my DH and I have been trying for  a year and a half, we are anxious to start a family. We have not made up our minds as to continue with the acupuncturist or not. But he gave us hope that the we will be able to start a family soon.

Here is the situation: Currently I'm super stressed out about my job, we are trying to start a family (The stress at work isn't really helping. My OB has asked me to take things easy.), and I'm currently going through a Yoga Teacher Training program to become a certified yoga instructor. Everything has its own impact on my well-being. I'm hoping after our acupuncture and IVF cycles, we'll be able to start a family. We have spent endless time and funds to start a family.

  3. Next step in treatment of endometriosis

    Sunday, August 12, 2012

I got in touch with my doctor’s office on Friday. Although I missed my cycle last month due to Lupron, I am spotting this month. Her office called me back and asked me to go and get an MRI and Ultrasound in order to find out if the fibroids have subsided on the left interior wall. My MRI is scheduled for next Friday. I will schedule my ultrasound next week.

Now that I have been on Lupron for a full month, I’m noticing some symptoms more prominent than others. I am not sure if it’s stress at work or the onset of depression due to Lupron. But I am constantly in a bad mood.

We'll see what the results of the MRI and ultrasound are!

  4. Life with endometriosis

    Tuesday, August 7, 2012

We had a conversation with our OB-GYN, she said my situation with endometriosis, I should be doing one of three things at all time. One: birth control; two: Lupron; three: pregnancy. Basically, when we are done with family planning, I need to stay on birth control for the rest of my adult life. Her advice for me was to have a hysterectomy in my 50s. That way, I do not have to worry about taking medicine.

With that weighing on my mind, I’m taking it one day at a time, especially since I’m only in my second of nine months of taking Lupron. Needless to say, we think the process is too long but we are determined to start a family.

  5. Yoga and endometriosis

    Monday, August 6, 2012

I read the other day that someone posted on her blog that practicing yoga helped her deal with endometriosis. I have been practicing yoga for the past year. Although I see the health reasons and spiritual benefits, I’m not sure it helps me deal with endometriosis and the pain on a monthly basis.

When my hubby and I decided to start a family, my mom recommended that I start yoga. She knew someone who took yoga (prenatal yoga) and it helped her with the birthing process. Now that I know my route is a little different with Lupron, I still spend my time practicing yoga.

  6. Second thoughts about Lupron

    Thursday, August 2, 2012

My husband and I have been trying to start a family for the last year. I’m afraid I have not thought through the side effects of Lupron. Some of the side effects I have been experiencing are: acne, hot flashes at night, cramps at night and slight heart palpitation (today). My OB-GYN assured my husband and me that we are going to have a family (either through intrauterine insemination [IUI] - which requires me to be on Lupron for 9 months - 1 year or IVF). Meanwhile, I’m taking Lupron because she wants to give us a chance to start a family in a less invasive way. I realized by the time I have to go through IVF, I would have already taken Lupron and the damage is done.

  7. Introduction

    Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Hello and welcome to my blog about living with endometriosis and trying to start a family. I got married a year ago and have been trying to start a family ever since. I live in sunny California with the hubby.

After seeing an OB-GYN for a year with no results, I decided to see another OB-GYN for a second opinion. And she is great! It's important to feel comfortable talking to your OB. If you don't feel comfortable or if you feel like you need a second opinion, I would encourage you to seek out a second opinion. It's the best decision I have made so far.

A couple of months back, my OB-GYN performed a laparoscopic surgery to remove the cysts. Immediately after the laparoscopic surgery, my OB-GYN recommended I take Lupron. I took my first shot last month. I'm still learning about Lupron and its side effects.

    Stay tuned for more updates!
